The story behind Thalkote Boutique Villas
Shiran Kossinna
Thalkote Boutique Villas is the realization of a long-held dream by its founder, Shiran Kossinna, an experienced professional banker who spent several decades in corporate management before turning toward his true passion—creating a serene boutique sanctuary that celebrates Sri Lanka's heritage, nature, and authentic hospitality.
Shiran purchased the property in 2020, when it was nothing more than an abandoned stretch of agricultural land. Guided by his vision for sustainability and organic living, he began transforming the land into an organic Guava plantation of nearly 500 plants, which later achieved official GAP certification from the Department of Agriculture. The early years were filled with challenges, but Shiran pursued his dream with determination, driven by a deep respect for the environment and a desire to create something meaningful for the region.
In 2024, despite financial obstacles and the complexities of construction, his dream of building boutique villas finally took shape. Central to his vision was the creation of a beautiful lake within the property—a feature that today defines Thalkote Boutique Villas.
A Testament to Eco-Conscious Living
The lake is not only a stunning visual centrepiece but also a symbol of the founder's commitment to eco-friendly living. All wastewater and sewage water is responsibly treated and recycled back into the lake, maintaining both sustainability and natural harmony. Today, the lake is home to Sri Lankan fish, turtles, and gentle flocks of ducks, creating a lively ecosystem that adds soul to the property.
Thalkote Boutique Villas is also the result of a profound creative collaboration between Shiran and the project's architect—an expert with a doctorate in ancient Sri Lankan architecture. Together, they blended traditional Sri Lankan design principles with modern boutique luxury, resulting in a retreat that honours heritage, celebrates nature, and offers guests a rare sense of peace and authenticity.
